Official Privacy Policy of Docracy, always updated and part of the Terms Of Service. This document is a part of Docracy's Terms of Service Tracker project, which tracks changes to terms of service and privacy policy documents of many of the world's top websites.

At Docracy, we collect and manage user data according to the following Privacy Policy, drafted to incorporate our company values: trasparency, accessibility, sanity, usability. This document is part of Docracy's Terms of Service, that you agree upon the moment you start using the Website. Please read the Terms of Service in their entirety, and refer to those for definitions and contacts.


Data Collected

We collect anonymous data from every visitor of the Website to monitor traffic and fix bugs. We collect information like your web request, the data sent in response to that request, the Internet Protocol address, the browser type, the browser language, and a timestamp for the request.

We ask you to log in and provide basic personal information to be able to save your profile and the documents and comments associated with it.  In order to enable these or any other login based features, we use cookies to store session information for your convenience. You can block or delete cookies and still be able to use Docracy, although if you do that you'll be asked for your username and password every time. The amount and type of personal information we collect varies based on the interaction, but your decision to utilize these features and provide such data will always be voluntary. We might ask for additional details and procedures when the signing feature will be enabled.

 You have the right to view, change and remove your data at any moment by accessing your profile. Should you need to remove your account completely, please let us know at [email protected] and we'll do it for you as soon as possible. You can also modify your notification preferences by clicking the appropriate link that you find in the footer of every notification.


Use of the Data

We only use data to improve Docracy, and we use your personal information only to provide you services or communicating with you.

As per your documents' privacy, we take confidentiality seriously, as we know that legal information is valuable. We encrypt all your private documents, and permanently delete your redacted edits. If you make a document public, we recommend you eliminate any reference to people and addresses, as we can't protect public data and we won't be liable for any violation of privacy law perpetrated by you.

We employ industry standard systems, policies, and procedures in place to protect against unauthorized access, use, or alteration of our collected data including personal information. 

We do not share personal information you have provided to us without your consent, unless:

  • doing so is appropriate to carry out a user’s request;
  • we believe that doing so is legally required;
  • or to otherwise protect our property, legal rights, or that of others.

Docracy is operated from the United States and complies with U.S. privacy and data protection laws.   If you are visiting the Website from outside the U.S., you agree to any processing of any personal information you provide through Ghostery.com according to this policy.


Parties involved

We don't share your data with third parties. Only aggregated, anonymized data are periodically transmitted to external services to help us improve Docracy. We currently use Google Analytics (traffic analysis, SEO optimization), Mailchimp (mailing list management) and Zendesk (email support). We listed below what data these third parties extract exactly.Feel free to check out their own Privacy Policies to find out more. 

  • Google Analytics: Anonymous (ad serving domains, browser type, demographics, language settings, page views, time/date), Pseudonymous (IP address)
  • Mailchimp: name and email of our beta subscription list
  • Zendesk: Anonymous
We also uses social buttons provided by services like Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn and Facebook. The use of this service is entirely optional and we refer to these respective services' privacy policies for the data use.
